According to this post: I didn’t find any errors in the system log files. It seems the Marvell 88SX should be well supported, it pops up all over the placed when searching for that type of card, even in the FreeNAS forums. Any clues on this?????? Register a new account.

I did a quick check on the forum for posts relating to the Marvell 88SX and the ones I have seen seem to be on the negative side more than positive, especially the one around “Kernel Panic” and “Can’t replace disk because pool is unavailable, even though its imported”.
But why only see the first 2 channels? There is no OSX support.
The drives plugged into slots 3 and 4 don’t show up. Memory at df bit, non-prefetchable Region 2: The actual sata controller for the 4 drives is on the backplane itself!

When i boot up FreeNAS the marvel chip shows up nicely, and so do the first 2 harddisk drives plugged in! Yes, my password is: I first plugged in an M. Marvel has terrible drivers on FreeBSD, just don’t use marvel products.
Only drives plugged in to the first 2 channels are recognized. RedguyAug 88sx70042, The 88SX seems to use a sata multiplier internally bus the output shows that this is working since the first to drives are connected to that multiplier as well. RedguyJul 29, This version detects the card and connected hard drives. You are probably right, there marevll far better products you can buy.
So my hobby project is to ditch the ARM based motherboard, and hookup the harddisk backplane to something intel based through the PCI-E connector.

I have tried the same setup using a Debian live cd. Yes that’s an ARM based device. I got the feeling, I am really close. So i am trying to get madvell backplane with that controller on board working. The little 4 drive box actualy contains a mini ITX size arm based mother board connected to the hard disk backplane through a PCI-E x4 connector.
I followed this guide on kext editing: Register a new account. I just verified that the card is working fine under Windows 7 with the current driver provided by SonnetTech.
